Packaging Engineering Specialist, GE HealthCare
Looking back at my freshman year and the plans I had set out for myself, I find myself lucky to have come across the Packaging Systems and Design program. During my freshman Spring semester, after being introduced to the program and the curriculum during the VT Major’s Fair, I took my first class in the program, CAD in Packaging.
In my current position as Packaging Engineering Specialist at GE HealthCare, I work with global teams in developing packaging solutions to deliver quality medical products to our customers.
Today, we are working towards shifting to more environmentally friendly packaging solutions across our manufacturing sites and developing safer packaging designs to handle our medical equipment throughout the distribution. In these projects, I often rely on the knowledge I gained through my experience as part of the Packaging Systems and Design program.
The faculty of the packaging program do a great job at cultivating an engaging and rewarding environment for students to succeed in. The curriculum is designed to expose students to the two sides of package design; scientific and engineering. The courses ranged from learning about the different materials used in packaging, to structural design. I felt prepared and confident going into the workforce when I left VT.
