Md Sahadat Hossain

Biography

Dr. Md Sahadat Hossain is a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Sustainable Biomaterials at Virginia Tech. His research focuses on forest bioenergy, biomass utilization, life cycle assessment, techno-economic analysis, carbon accounting, environmental and health co-benefits, and economic valuation of sustainable bioeconomy systems.

Before joining Virginia Tech, Dr. Hossain served as an Assistant Specialist in Biomass and Bioenergy with the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources, where he worked on forest biomass-to-renewable diesel, hydrogen, and biochar pathways for California’s wood-based bioeconomy. He earned his Ph.D. from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, where his dissertation examined the optimal use of woody biomass resources to support climate goals through GIS-based spatial modeling, biomass logistics, life cycle assessment, and techno-economic analysis.

His broader research interests include sustainable forest utilization, low-carbon fuels, biochar, biomass carbon removal and storage, environmental justice, air-quality and public-health co-benefits, and decision-support tools for climate and natural resource policy.
