Henry Quesada

We would like to offer our congratulations to Dr. Henry Quesada, who has been promoted to full professor! Henry has been with the Department of Sustainable Biomaterials since 2008 as a professor and extension specialist. He graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering from Costa Rica Tech in 1997, and then continued his education by getting both his MS and PhD in Wood Products Technology from Purdue University in 2001 and 2004, respectively. His academic focus at Virginia Tech has been on product innovation, process improvement, and marketing research. During his time at Virginia Tech, Henry has been awarded over $4 million in grants and contracts as the principal and co-principal investigator, graduated 14 MS and PhD students, and has published over 48 peer-reviewed papers.

In Henry’s role as extension specialist, he has the goal of supporting the competitiveness of the wood products industry in Virginia and beyond.  During his time at Virginia Tech, Henry has developed collaborations and long-term relationships with industry and government associations such as the Virginia Department of Forestry, the Virginia Forest Products Association, the Virginia Loggers Association, the Hardwoods Manufacturing Association, the Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers Association, the National Hardwood Lumber Association, the American Hardwood Export Council, and the Softwood Export Council. Henry is frequently invited to provide seminars and technical insights, as well as asked to conduct research by these groups in support of the wood products industry.

Henry currently serves on numerous editorial and organizational boards including Consortium for Research on Renewable Industrial Materials, BioProducts Journal, and Tec Empresarial. He was recently elected as the Vice President of the Society of Wood Science and Technology, and next year, he will become the elected president.
