Matthew Winn

Forestry Technician - USDA Forest Service

Matt graduated in 1993 with a degree in Forest Resource Management and received a master's degree in 2002 in Forest Biometrics, both from Virginia Tech. He started working for the USDA Forest Service's Southern Research Station part-time while still an undergraduate in 1992 and was hired to a full time position after graduation. Originally from Richmond, Virginia, Matt currently resides in Christiansburg where he enjoys fishing and woodworking.

  • Non-timber forest products data collection and analysis
  • Development and testing of forest tree canopy assessment software
  • Development and testing of urban tree crown assessment software
  • Collecting and analyzing data on home construction waste
