Matt Hixon

Lab and Maintenance Technician

Matt was born and raised in the New River Valley.  He is a United States Marine Corps veteran with two combat deployments.  He lives in Pilot, Virginia with his wife and young daughter.  Matt enjoys hunting, the outdoors, and spending time with his daughter.  He joined the department in July 2016 and enjoys looking for opportunities to learn something new every day.


Areas of Responsibility:

  • Maintenance and operation of servo-hydraulic and data acquisition equipment
  • General maintenance and upkeep of the Brooks Forest Products Center
  • Coordinating the installation of new equipment
  • Assisting students and faculty with research projects
  • Inventory and surplus of department equipment
  • Organize test set-ups and assemble test fixtures in accordance with established procedures
  • Support overall faculty research and teaching needs; provide various support as needed to faculty and students.
